High Resolution Manometry (HRM) is a diagnostic procedure looking at the motility of the esophagus to help diagnose problems with swallowing that don't seem to be caused by an obstruction, an ulcer, or inflammation.
HRM measures intraluminal pressure activity in the gastrointestinal tract using a series of closely spaced pressure sensors. Disordered motor function in the esophagus can be an hidden cause of difficult swallowing and chest pain. High Resolution Manometry is the very best evaluation tool for assessing esophageal movement.
